Uganda Signals Support for Israel if Middle East Conflict Escalates
“We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will bring us into the war — on the side of Israel,” Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, chief of defense forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, said on the US social media platform X.
The comments were made amid rising regional tensions following recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran and Iran’s subsequent retaliatory strikes.
Kainerugaba has recently attracted attention for plans to install a statue honoring Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who died leading commandos during the 1976 Entebbe hostage rescue mission in Uganda.
The conflict, ongoing since late February, has produced significant casualties and continues with drone and missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, affecting neighboring countries as well.
